Hyllus ornatus Haddad, Wiśniewski & Wesołowska, 2024, sp. nov.

Hyllus ornatus sp. nov. Figs 18B–E, 19 Diagnosis. This species has a characteristic abdominal pattern (Fig. 18B). The palpal organ of the male resembles that of Hyllus tuberculatus Wanless & Clark, 1975 but can be recognized by the clearly longer embolus (compare Fig. 18C and 19B with fig. 25A in Wesołowska & Russell-Smith 2022). The female is distinctive in having a unique form of the epigyne, which is triangular with two strongly sclerotized flaps in the centre (Fig. 18E). Etymology. The specific name is Latin, meaning “decorated” and refers to its body pattern. Type material. Holotype: ♂, MOZAMBIQUE: Tete: leg. C.F. Roewer (SMF 9699). Paratype: MOZAMBIQUE: Tete: no further details, 1♀ (SMF 9682). Description. Male: Measurements: Cephalothorax: length 5.1, width 3.9, height 2.7. Eye field: length 2.3, anterior width 3.2, posterior width 3.3. Abdomen: length 5.5, width 2.6. General appearance in Fig. 18B. Carapace oval, brown, lighter in centre and darkening to margins, vicinity of eyes black. White patch formed by white hairs at fovea, broad white streaks along lateral margins of carapace. Very long white hairs on lower edge of clypeus. Chelicerae dark brown, with single large tooth on retromargin (Fig. 19A), white hairs covering promarginal surface of chelicerae. Sternum light brown, labium and endites dark brown with white tips.Abdomen ovoid, with contrasting pattern; background dark brown, with transverse streak composed of white hairs near anterior edge, large yellow patch on posterior half, posterior tip white (Fig. 18B). Sparse long brown bristles on abdominal dorsum. Venter with wide grey streak. Spinnerets light brown. Legs brownish, two anterior pairs dark brown, larger than others. Spines long, leg hairs brown and colourless. Distal ends of tibiae blackish. Palp light brown, clothed in long brown and white hairs. Structure of palpal organ in Figs 18C, D, 19B, C, retromarginal edge of cymbium with clear enlargement (Fig. 18C). Female: Measurements: Cephalothorax: length 5.3, width 4.4, height 2.3. Eye field: length 2.3, anterior and posterior width 3.5. Abdomen: length 5.6, width 3.9. Shape of body and colouration as in male. Some white hairs between anterior eyes and on frontal surface of chelicerae. Epigyne triangular, two small semicircular depressions in centre with strongly sclerotized flaps above (Figs 18E, 19D). Internal structure as in Fig. 19E, spermathecae large, spherical, with narrow duct forming loops in distal parts to fertilization duct. Distribution. Only known from the Tete Province, Mozambique.
