Stenochironomus Kieffer 1919

Genus Stenochironomus Kieffer, 1919 A genus of>100 described species that occur in all zoogeographical regions except Antarctica. The genus was revised by Borkent (1984), describing Petalopholeus as a new subgenus. South American species were treated by Dantas et al. (2016). The larvae are obligate miners in living or dead vegetation including woody parts of plants, in both lentic and lotic situations (Epler et al. 2013).
