Cognitive Development and Emotional Intelligence: A Probe into Divergent Gita Texts
Abstract: Indian culture encompasses the search for knowledge on various philosophical and educational systems. These systems incorporate self-realization, spiritual enlightenment, and the discourses of the truth related to existence. This traditional wisdom emphasizes the holistic well-being of the people along with moral-ethical lessons, life skills, good virtues, and spiritual order. These texts provide the instructions for personal and social upliftment, progress and betterment of people, and pursuit of happiness, truth, and wisdom. These philosophical lessons of ancient knowledge systems include various prominent terms and theories. Indian scholars recorded the ultimate wisdom directly and indirectly mixed with philosophical, religious, spiritual, and literary traditions. To extract the complex lessons from that traditional knowledge system was a little difficult. The Indological studies paved the way for extracting such types of knowledge by Western scholars. The translation of Indian traditional works and commentaries in foreign languages and comparative studies supported the western scholars to think in variant dimensions of these knowledge systems. Today, when we notice some occidental theories or knowledge, the glimpses of the same can be traced from our tradition. The present study titled “Cognitive Development and Emotional Intelligence: A Probe into Divergent Gita Texts” focuses on the prominence of different Gita compilations found in the Mahabharata. These terms came into usage in the 19th century and developed as a theory in the late 90s and flourished today as a prominent realm in psychology and mental well-being. This study will analyse the salient features of cognitive development and emotional & spiritual intelligence/emotional quotient in the divergent Gita texts.
