A Global Perspective on Educational Leadership and Management Beyond the Western Lens
Abstract: In recent decades, the field of educational leadership and management has attracted considerable attention; however, research remains disproportionately focused on English-speaking Western societies. This study aims to evaluate the global body of literature on educational leadership and management, placing particular emphasis on contributions from non-Western contexts. We analyze trends in publication volumes, thematic focuses, methodological preferences, and citation impacts of studies conducted beyond traditional centers of scholarship. Our findings underscore the urgent need for a more inclusive knowledge base that authentically reflects diverse socio-cultural contexts. By broadening the scope of research in educational leadership, we can better inform educational policies and practices on a global scale. This study advocates for a shift towards recognizing and integrating perspectives from various regions, which is essential for addressing the complexities of contemporary educational challenges. Incorporating insights from non-Western scholarship will not only enrich the academic discourse but also enhance the relevance and effectiveness of leadership practices across different educational systems. A more comprehensive understanding of educational leadership that embraces diversity is critical for fostering equity and improving educational outcomes for all learners worldwide.
