Abstract: This analysis focuses on the relative assessment of the financial performance of the State Bank of India and Canara Bank, two leading banks in the public sector in India during the period 2018-2023. Other sources of secondary data included annual reports, publications of the Reserve Bank of India, and other sources to manage various ratios, productivity and financial efficiency. Factors influencing financial performance include macroeconomic considerations, measures of changes in regulatory policies as well as strategies formulated by the bank. Findings indicate dissimilarity in performance measurements such as Return on Assets, return on equity with the net interest margin. Policymakers, bank management as well as regulators will benefit from the research, as it provides pertinent comments for all these stakeholders, pinpointing the challenges and suggesting ways for bettering financial performance and sustainability.
