Mathematical Model for Solving Transportation Problems Using Linear Programming During Highway Construction
Abstract: Transportation problems involve optimizing the allocation of resources from suppliers to demand points, with various constraints and costs. This study presents a comprehensive comparative analysis of mathematical linear programming (LP) models for solving transportation problems in highway projects with traditional operational research techniques, and CPLEX software. The study assesses the efficiency, accuracy, and scalability of these two methods in addressing real-world transportation challenges. In this paper, employed conventional operational research methods like Vogels Approximation method (VAM) and Modified distribution method (MODI). A comparative analysis is based on performance metrics, including solution quality, computation time, and resource utilization. The findings reveal valuable insights into the strengths and weaknesses of each approach, helping decision-makers choose the most suitable method for addressing transportation problems in different contexts. The study also contributes to the ongoing discussion of optimization techniques for logistics and supply chain management.
