A STUDY ON PREVALENCE OF POLYCYSTIC OVARY SYNDROME AMONG URBAN POPULATION OF EAST DELHI
Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) is a complex endocrine disorder that affects 5-10% of women in their reproductive years. Characterized by hormonal imbalances, PCOS creates a "sea saw" effect between androgens, estrogens, insulin, and gonadotropins. This study examines the hormonal interplay in PCOS and its correlation with clinical symptoms like acne, hirsutism, and menstrual irregularities. Our results suggest that PCOS is a form of multifactorial hormonal disturbance that cannot be explained solely by androgen overproduction. This research explores the temporary nature of hyperandrogenism and highlights the necessity of using a more inclusive diagnostic strategy to detect the low levels of androgens and other underlying hormonal mechanisms.
