Risk assessment of Landslide Area, Mapping by GIS & Remote Sensing and its Mitigation Methods for Patan Taluka (Western ghat in Maharashtra)
In many parts of India, particularly in the Himalayas, the northeastern hill ranges, and the Western Ghats, landslides are one of the most significant hydro geological risks. Natural disasters that frequently occur and cause property damage and fatalities include landslides. GIS and remote sensing are strong methods that can be very helpful in reducing the risk of landslides. Landslides are recognized both historically and currently through the use of remote sensing and GIS. Reliable methods for mitigation of landslide impacts must be based on the latest developments in knowledge and advanced methods of analysis and synthesis. An interdisciplinary approach is essential for effective solutions to landslide problems. Prevention or mitigation of landslide disasters requires understanding the factors which often lead to catastrophic landsliding and the simulation of conditions under which such failures may occur. Landslide risk management requires understanding and assessment of susceptibility and hazard. In particular, for regional assessment, landslide susceptibility and hazard mapping and zonation are necessary. Mitigation of landslide impacts is facilitated by the use of research -based thresholds of rainfall pore water pressure and/or displacement.
