CAUSES AND CONSEQUENCES OF LANGUAGE INTERFERENCE IN DEVELOPING PRIMARY CLASSROOM LEARNER' SPEAKING COMPETENCE IN ENGLISH
Developing speaking competence in English among primary school learners is a critical aspect of early language education. However, learners frequently encounter interference from their first language (L1), which hinders effective acquisition and application of English speaking skills. This paper explores the nature of linguistic interference, its impact on the speaking abilities of young learners, and pedagogical strategies to mitigate its effects. Drawing from linguistic theory, classroom observations, and recent research, the study outlines the types of interference, reasons for its persistence, and practical solutions for educators to foster more effective language development.
