SOLVING THE BEST INFORMATION SYSTEM SELECTION PROBLEM BY USING FUZZY MULTI-CRITERIA DECISION MAKING METHOD

The choice of the right information system is a decision which organizations make to establish a particular operational efficiency and maintain a competitive edge. There exists many criteria for the determination and selection of the information systems in any organization and these criteria tend to be vague and uncertain which makes the decision making process highly complex. This work utilizes fuzzy multi-criteria decision-making (MCDM) aspects to form an approach to the information system selection problem. This method clearly deals with the uncertainty involved in the fuzzy module of the MCDM system framework reducing the impacts of bias in the evaluations from the decision makers thereby allowing for better options. The methodology is demonstrated through a detailed case study including the criteria, stepwise selection, and binding of weights to the criteria. The findings provide evidence for the effectiveness and adaptability of fuzzy MCDM techniques in resolving subjective preference issues and providing the best solution for information systems choice issues. This work is relevant from both theory and practice perspectives and provides a logical and reliable approach to the problem being faced by many organizations, in the available decision-making context.
