CRITICAL ASSESSMENT OF THE HELIANT SYSTEM IN HEALTHCARE IN SERBIA: OPPORTUNITIES, CHALLENGES, AND FUTURE DIRECTIONS

This paper critically examines the implementation and impact of the Heliant system in healthcare institutions across Serbia. The study evaluates the system’s potential to modernize administrative workflows, enhance patient safety, and streamline healthcare delivery through the integration of electronic health records (EHRs) and advanced technologies. Employing a mixed-methods approach, the research gathers insights from surveys, case studies, and interviews conducted in urban and rural healthcare settings to analyze key performance metrics, identify barriers, and propose actionable recommendations. The findings highlight significant improvements in efficiency and error reduction but also reveal persistent challenges such as inadequate IT infrastructure, user training gaps, and data security concerns. The paper concludes by offering strategic directions for addressing these barriers, integrating technologies like artificial intelligence (AI) and the Internet of Things (IoT), and fostering policy and stakeholder alignment to ensure the system’s long-term sustainability. This study provides valuable insights for healthcare administrators, policymakers, and IT professionals aiming to advance digital health initiatives in resource-constrained settings.
