Genus GOSSYPARIA Signoret Gossyparia Signoret, 1875: 20. Type species: Coccus ulmi Linneaus by original designation. Diagnostic characters of the adult female: Body of live adult female with a felted ovisac, incomplete at midline, leaving mid-dorsum bare. Slide-mounted, body oval, narrowing posteriorly, with large anal lobes. Antennae each with 6 or 7 segments. Frontal lobes present. Legs well developed, each claw with a denticle. Macrotubular ducts on dorsum and venter forming a band along body margin. Microtubular ducts long, narrow, present on dorsum. Quinquelocular disc pores only present on venter. Cruciform pores present on ventral submargin. Dorsum with enlarged setae in a row on margin, each segment with 3–5 setae on either side; venter with hair-like setae. Anal lobes sclerotized, each lobe with small teeth on inner margin, a long apical seta, and usually with 3 enlarged setae on dorsal surface. Anal ring with pores and bearing 8 setae. Cauda well developed, with teeth on margin. Comments: Worldwide, two species are included in Gossyparia at present (García Morales et al. 2016); only G. spuria (Modeer) is known from Iran (Hoy 1963).
