Physiological Effects and Addictive Behaviors Associated With Virtual Reality (Vr) Gaming

Video gaming through virtual reality (VR) systems has surely advanced the field of interactive entertainment by providing users with highly engaging environments that immerse various sensory and cognitive systems. Still, with the growing interest in its application, some people’s concerns arise about the potential physiological and psychological effects. This work analyzes such links, focusing on tested changes stemming from excessive or extreme VR gaming: heart rate changes, eye strain, balance disorders, and cybersickness. Besides, it explores changes in behavior associated with the urge to play VR games endlessly, including the lack of time perception and forgetfulness of actual obligations. The paper also examines the escalating potential of addiction to new technologies by exploring video gaming, which is, during VR, more interactive and realistic than standard gaming. So speaking about these issues, this research underlines the necessity of developing VR content in a way that promotes users’ health and also offers a summary of measures that can minimize health risks, which need multidisciplinary further studies.
