D-N4.3 Extended Test Description Method

With the increasing integration of Information and Communication Technology into energy systems and the convergence of various energy infrastructures, it has become necessary to define new testing scenarios, profiles, and processes. Achieving this requires a thorough review of major trends shaping research, testing, and validation practices, emphasising emerging aspects such as interoperability testing and digitalization. ERIGrid 2.0 addresses these challenges through an iterative approach to developing testing scenarios, profiles, and processes. This deliverable focuses on refining and enhancing testing processes, primarily advancing holistic test case procedures and test reporting methods. Three key extensions have been introduced: Enhanced System and Control Function Descriptions: Systems and control functions can now be documented in a much more detailed and structured manner. This structured, platform-independent description format offers significant benefits, including the ability to generate both simulation models and real laboratory tests from the same specifications. This format improves test reproducibility by enabling seamless conversion between simulation tools or lab environments. Addressing Uncertainty in Experiments: Recognizing the inherent uncertainties in both laboratory and simulation-based experiments, this deliverable introduces tools to support experimenters in systematically addressing these uncertainties during the planning stage. This includes (i) a new template for conducting systematic uncertainty structure analysis and (ii) enhancements to the existing Holistic Testing Description templates to incorporate uncertainty considerations throughout all experimental stages. Online Test Case Repository: To maximize the long-term utility of test cases developed within ERIGrid 2.0, an online repository has been established. Users can publish their Test Cases by uploading Word files to a GitHub repository, where they are converted into web pages and hosted for broader access. This repository ensures that the Test Cases will remain accessible and beneficial to users even after the conclusion of the ERIGrid 2.0project. These advancements collectively aim to strengthen the processes of testing, validation, and research within evolving energy systems.

Abstract

With the increasing integration of Information and Communication Technology into energy systems and the convergence of various energy infrastructures, it has become necessary to define new testing scenarios, profiles, and processes. Achieving this requires a thorough review of major trends shaping research, testing, and validation practices, emphasising emerging aspects such as interoperability testing and digitalization. ERIGrid 2.0 addresses these challenges through an iterative approach to developing testing scenarios, profiles, and processes. This structured, platform-independent description format offers significant benefits, including the ability to generate both simulation models and real laboratory tests from the same specifications. This format improves test reproducibility by enabling seamless conversion between simulation tools or lab environments.
