Imagine a world in which every citation is generated from Wikidata

Imagine a world in which every citation is generated from Wikidata. This is the title of a short presentation on the benefits of Wikidata as a central repository of all bibliographic records, both for Wikimedia projects and for researchers using citation managers such as Zotero. Bibliographic records on Wikidata will simplify the mapping for Wikipedia's different language mutations and reduce the time needed to create references in Zotero. Wikipedia editors using the Visual Editor can already generate citations from Wikidata via QID and could develop a habit of adding missing bibliographic entries in Wikidata before using them. People using the Zotero citation manager can scrape citations directly from Wikidata via the Zotero Connector browser plugin and upload them to Wikidata via the Cita plugin. Holders of bibliographic databases, such as the National Library of the Czech Republic, which released its database of over 1 million records under a free license in 2022, are also on the scene. Therefore, it is possible to start mapping and uploading this data to Wikidata. And, of course, motivate other holders of bibliographical records to release them to the public domain.
