DATA DOCUMENTATION - CS-NOW: Gridded future projections of natural and artificially influenced river flows (1980 to 2080)

The UKCP18-driven hydrological model simulations consist of files of river flows at 626 English gauging stations and 1 km × 1 km resolution grids of NATURAL and anthropogenically influenced (AI) daily mean river flows. The Grid-to-Grid (G2G) model river flow estimates (m3s-1) are provided for the period 1st December 1980 to 30th November 2080 for different AI scenarios, including three future scenarios of artificial influences: (a) Sustainability (SUS), (b) Business as usual (BAU) and (c) Economic Growth (EG). The climate projections used to drive the G2G hydrological model consist of an ensemble of bias-corrected UKCP18 (UK Climate Projections) Regional Climate Model (RCM) output. The AI projections take the form of 1 km × 1 km grids of monthly abstractions and annual discharges for 3 future scenarios and are essentially perturbations of abstraction/discharge observations for the period 2010 to 2014. The CS-NOW UKCP18-driven G2G flow estimates for historical and future periods are available on CEDA: https://dx.doi.org/10.5285/cf66055440344d7eb9b6f834e81736c6. This document summarises the CS-NOW UKCP18-driven G2G flow estimates dataset, explains how it was made, and discusses the approximations and limitations of the dataset.
