Viticulture and winemaking in Russia

The origin of viticulture in Russia goes back several centuries (EGOROV et al. 2004, S MIRNOV et al. 1998). In ancient times, the wild grapevine Vitis vinifera ssp. sylvestris Gmel. was already grown on the territories of the modern major viti- cultural areas: mainly in the sub-mountain and mountain areas of Dagestan and along the Black and Azov Seas' coasts.
