Semi-Transparent CIGS Thin-Film PV Modules

By ablation of tiny spots of photovoltaic CIGS thin films, semi-transparent PV modules are produced with a homogeneous appearance to the human eye. Various degrees of transparency are presented, variations in moduling are being discussed and the resulting modules are characterised in terms of electrical yield and optical properties. Potential applications for these aesthetically appealing semi-transparent PV modules are shown, including the prototype of a photovoltaic window.

Abstract

By ablation of tiny spots of photovoltaic CIGS thin films, semi-transparent PV modules are produced with a homogeneous appearance to the human eye. Various degrees of transparency are presented, variations in moduling are being discussed and the resulting modules are characterised in terms of electrical yield and optical properties. Potential applications for these aesthetically appealing semi-transparent PV modules are shown, including the prototype of a photovoltaic window.
