Material Properties Requirements for Frame Sealants and Junction Box Adhesives
We investigate the properties of the most commonly used frame and junction box sealants in the industry and compare them with those of a reference PV sealant with a long track record. Lap shear and peel test studies show that those materials can sometimes show poor adhesion after water immersion aging. With H-bar tensile testing, we also observe variations in material properties depending on the batch, and we show that these sealants are not best suited to withstand complex stress situations. In the last part we discuss the impact of sealant properties on stresses in the glass at the edge of glass-glass laminates.
