Am I invisible? Asian American student activism at the University of Iowa, 1998-2008
Using archival records and oral history transcripts, this dissertation analyzes Asian American student activism at the University of Iowa (UI) from 1998 to 2008. During this decade, Asian American students faced feelings of racial invisibility, experienced racialized sexism, and struggled against the Model Minority Myth. In response the Asian American students organized the Asian American Coalition, a panethnic Asian American student organization. This study explores how the Asian American students created and used the Asian American Coalition to meet their social, cultural, and political needs on campus.
