Measurement of instantaneous exposure to 5G massive MIMO base stations and comparison to established mobile radio services

The rollout of 5G has already begun and the question arises how this will change overall exposure to mobile radio networks. Apart from extrapolation procedures to maximum exposure, the measurement of instantaneous exposure is also an important task for the purpose of monitoring. Therefore, a method for measuring instantaneous exposure to 5G base stations will be discussed here. It will be verified at three 5G massive MIMO base stations in Germany. Two scenarios are presented, one in which the base station is idle and one in which it is fully utilized and a traffic beam is directed to the measuring point. The instantaneous exposure is compared to the exposure of already established mobile radio services (2G, 3G, 4G).
