Impacto de la reducción de la jornada laboral en la calidad de vida y productividad de los trabajadores formales, mediante una revisión de alcance

Introduction: There is a growing global trend towards reducing working hours to improve quality of life and efficiency, supported by research in different regions of the world. Objectives: To analyze the available evidence on the impact of reduced working hours on the quality of life and productivity of formal workers. Methods: Using PRISMA-ScR criteria, a scoping review of quantitative and qualitative studies was carried out in eight databases. Studies of individuals from all work sectors were included and editorials and conference abstracts were not included. A search strategy was applied in health sciences databases with terms validated by MeSH, and a critical analysis and synthesis of 28 studies that met the selection criteria was performed. Results: The importance of balancing work hours to optimize health, quality of life and productivity is highlighted. Specific examples include improvements in the U.S. by reducing hours, contrasting with long hours in China and the negative impact on the health of Brazilian workers during the pandemic. International studies point to health problems with long hours, highlighting the imbalance between work and personal life. Conclusions: The complexity of the relationship between the length of the working day, quality of life and employee productivity is highlighted, as it is necessary to find an appropriate balance in working hours to improve employee well-being and performance.
