Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojana (Gramin)

The basic necessities of life include food, clothing and shelter. Out of these, shelter is the most expensive one. For a large section of people in India it is still a dream to have a good house of their own, especially in rural areas. Therefore, the Ministry of Rural development, Government of India launched “Pradhan Mantri Awaas Yojna – Gramin” to provide affordable housing for all by 2022. This report attempts to analyze the objectives, key features, current status and challenges in the implementation of this scheme and also suggest possible solutions to them. The author has conducted doctrinal research to prepare this report. The data has been majorly collected from sources such as government reports, research articles, blogs, media reports and government ministry websites. This scheme has contributed a lot in the socio–economic development of the rural areas in our country but there are certain challenges which need to be overcome in order to achieve its true potential.
