Addressing Educational Disparities in the Young Residents (Aged 0-18) of Granville and Vance Counties, North Carolina
Education is an important aspect of everyone’s life and directly correlates to an individual’s health outcomes and quality of life. Unfortunately, many children throughout the United States experience a variety of barriers giving rise to educational disparities. In Granville and Vance Counties (GVC), North Carolina historical inequities have only exacerbated these gaps. For the youth (aged 0-18), these barriers exist at an intersection with priorities detailed in the Granville-Vance 2021 Community Health Assessment (CHA). Through a contextual analysis and review of the Social Determinants of Health (SDOH) related to education in GVC, recommendations for action have been identified as a set of actional strategies focused on data sharing, mental health support, and community partnerships. This approach offers a multifaceted plan that can build more resilient communities for GVC.
