La prédation des semences adventices par les carabes peut contribuer à réguler les adventices dans les systèmes de grande culture.

The aim was to assess the contribution of weed seed predation by carabids to the biological regulation of weeds in arable cropping systems. A model was developed from our past experiments and the literature, to predict the daily weed seed predation rate from environmental conditions, cropping operations and weed seed traits. The model was integrated into the FLORSYS model, which simulates the daily weed dynamics and the crop yields over the years, from cropping system and pedoclimate. Simulations were compared with field observations, showing that including predation in FLORSYS improves its predictive quality. Simulations also showed that weed seed predation can reduce field infestation by weeds and improve crop yields, but the effect of cropping system and weather is more influential.
