Design and Implementation of a oneM2M-Based Remote Monitoring System for Water Supply in Water Distribution Networks

In the Philippines, water distribution systems face challenges like intermittent supply, slow flow, and low pressure. Water utilities struggle with non-revenue water (NRW) mainly due to leaks in distribution systems. Regulators focus on evaluating utilities' performance based on service standards. There is a shared need among customers, utilities, and regulators for a remote monitoring system to measure water parameters. To address this, a system was developed to monitor water storage levels, pressure, and flow rate using ultrasonic, water pressure, and water flow sensors. The system employs machine-to-machine communication based on oneM2M standards, allowing for scalability and integration of additional sensors. It was implemented on a small-scale model with interconnected PPR pipes and five wireless sensor nodes.
