Research on the Standardization Needs for Low-Carbon Ships

Standardization is an important means to implement the international maritime regulations and lead the low/zero carbon development of the industry. It plays an important role in regulating the carbon emission management for enterprises of shipbuilding, offshore engineering and repairing, accelerating the application of low carbon technologies and products, and promoting the implementation of reduction measures for operational emission of ships. In this paper, according to China’s national strategic objectives and IMO greenhouse gas emission reduction requirements, together with the view of challenges faced by the low-carbon development of the shipbuilding industry, it is proposed that standardization is an important initiative to accelerate the low-carbon development of the shipbuilding industry. On this basis, problems of low-carbon standardization in shipbuilding industry are analyzed, and suggestions of standardization work to accelerate low-carbon development are put forward from technical level and management level respectively. The paper can effectively guide the development of low-carbon standardization work in the shipbuilding industry and provide support to achieve the strategic goal of carbon peak and carbon neutrality.
