Abstract

The emerging amorphous structure of metal nanomaterials\nas catalysts\nhas revealed enormous potential; yet, their application is hindered\nby limited synthesis methods. In this study, we developed a facile\nstrategy for synthesizing an amorphous FeS/heteroatom-doped carbon\nhybrid material as a highly efficient catalyst. Leveraging sulfur\nmigration at high temperatures and the confinement effect provided\nby a hyper-cross-linked polymer (HCP), we achieved one-step carbonization\nand heterogeneous catalyst fabrication. The HCP offers multiple benefits\nand synergistic effects, serving as both a sulfur source and confinement\nmatrix, attributed to its exceptional designability, structural stability,\nand cost-effectiveness. The resulting amorphous structure exhibited\nsuperior catalytic performance in the Fenton reaction compared to\ncrystalline structures. Furthermore, the formation process and mechanism\nof this amorphous catalyst are extensively discussed. The reasons\nbehind its exceptional catalytic efficiency in the Fenton reaction\nwere also explored, suggesting that the acceleration mechanism of\nheteroatom-doped carbon may stem from its remarkable capacity for\naccepting and transferring electrons. This work has developed a novel\nand facile strategy for preparing amorphous FeS/carbon hybrid materials\nand offered valuable insights into optimizing the efficiency of the\nFenton reaction for wastewater treatment and beyond.
