Comprehensive Insights\ninto the Development of Antitoxoplasmosis\nDrugs: Current Advances, Obstacles, and Future Perspectives

Current\ntherapies for toxoplasmosis rely on a few drugs, most of\nwhich have severe side effects, and seeking ideal therapies for different\ntypes of toxoplasmosis is a long-term and challenging mission. Research\nand development (R&D) of novel drugs against <i>Toxoplasma\ngondii</i> (<i>T</i>. <i>gondii</i>) has\nfocused on two main directions, the structural modification of lead\ncompounds and natural products. Here we summarize the recent advances\nin the development of anti-<i>T</i>. <i>gondii</i> drugs from these two perspectives and provide comprehensive insights,\nreflecting on the advantages and selected molecules in each field.\nThis review also focuses on the current obstacles to the development\nof novel anti-<i>T</i>. <i>gondii</i> agents,\nproposes comprehensive solutions, and facilitates future development.
