Achieving Ideal\nMagnetic Light Emission with Electric-Type\nEmitters

Optical magnetic dipole (MD) emission predominantly relies\non emitters\nwith significant MD transitions, which, however, rarely exist in nature.\nHere, we propose a strategy to transform electric dipole (ED) emission\nto a magnetic one by elegantly coupling an ED emitter to a silicon\nnanoparticle exhibiting a strong MD resonance. This emission mode\ntransformation enables an artificially ideal magnetic dipole source\nwith an MD purity factor of up to 99%. The far-field emission patterns\nof such artificial MD sources were experimentally measured, which\nunambiguously resolved their magnetic-type emission origin. This study\nopens the path to achieving ideal magnetic dipole emission with nonmagnetic\nemitters, largely extending the availability of magnetic light emitters\nconventionally limited by nature. Beyond the fundamental significance\nin science, we anticipate that this study will also facilitate the\ndevelopment of magnetic optical nanosource and enable potential photonic\napplications relying on magnetic light emission.
