Remote PhotocatalysisThe\nPhotocatalytic Activity\nof TiO2 Excited Via Surface Plasmon Polariton Propagation\nin a Single Silver Nanowire
Metallic structures play a pivotal role in the processes\ninduced\nor enhanced by plasmon resonances. In this work, we describe the utilization\nof light energy converted to the surface plasmon polaritons (SPPs)\nfor the initiation of photocatalytic reactions (semiconductor photocatalysis).\nIrradiation of silver nanowires coated with titanium dioxide results\nin the SPPs propagation and excitation of the photocatalytic system\nca. 10 μm away from the illumination spot. The reaction progress\nis revealed by transforming almost nonfluorescent 3′-(<i>p</i>-aminophenyl) fluorescein to strongly emitting fluorescein.\nRemote plasmonic photocatalysis can be further explored in the fields\nof photocatalysis, photovoltaics, and sensorics.
