Criteria for\na Critical Selection of Hydrophobic (Deep)\nEutectic Mixtures

Hydrophobic\ndeep eutectic solvents (hDESs) and, in general, hydrophobic\nlow-melting mixtures (hLMMs) represent a burgeoning field of research.\nThis study delves into the characterization of hLMMs, aiming to streamline\nthe selection process for specific applications by identifying key\nparameters governing their properties. A testing set comprising 53\nstable hLMMs, prepared from seven natural compounds in various molar\nratios, was systematically evaluated for intermolecular interactions,\ntransport properties, and potential hazards. Through a comprehensive\nanalysis, including spectral properties related to intermolecular\ninteractions and sustainability metrics, a ranking system based on\neasily determined molecular properties was devised. Notably, this\nmethod complements traditional bulk solvatochromic or rheological\nparameters, offering a rapid, yet effective, means of screening hLMMs.\nWhile adaptable and extendable to include additional physical properties,\nthe simplicity and rapid response time of this approach stand as its\nprimary strengths, facilitating its integration into diverse applications\nand future refinements.
