Study on the Thermal\nBehavior of Mixtures of Ammonium\nNitrate and Micronutrient Chelates with Potential toward Enhancing\nthe Efficiency of Precision Agriculture

Co-decomposition of ammonium nitrate\n(AN) and its mixtures\nwith\nmicroelement chelates of ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid (EDTA) and\niminodisuccinic acid (IDHA) has been studied. The TG-DTA-DTG method\nhas been used to evaluate the thermal stability characteristics of\nthe composition containing up to 0.5 mass % of Cu, Mn, or Zn metal\nions. The aim of the study was to evaluate the effect of micronutrient\nchelates on the thermal decomposition of AN in terms of the possibility\nof the production process of AN-based fertilizers enriched with micronutrient\nadditives. AN mixtures with EDTA maintain consistent decomposition\ntemperatures, while IDHA mixtures show reduced temperatures with an\nincreasing chelate content. For evaluation, the thermal decomposition\nrate index (TDRI) based on the TG-DTA-DTG characteristic has been\ncalculated. Zn-EDTA and Mn-EDTA mixtures are relatively stable, whereas\nIDHA mixtures exhibit reduced stability compared to pure AN. Results\nshow that increasing metal ion content generally decreases thermal\nstability and quickening decomposition. In general, research highlights\nthe negative impact of micronutrient chelates on AN decomposition,\ncautioning against their use in traditional fertilizer production\nprocesses with a high AN content.
