Iron-Catalyzed Chemoselective\nTransfer Hydrogenation\nof α,β-Unsaturated Ketones Using H2O as a Surrogate\nof Hydrogen
Sustainable and highly economical\niron-catalyzed chemoselective\nreduction of CC of α,β-unsaturated ketones has\nbeen established under mild reaction protocols. Water is used as a\ngreen and abundant surrogate of hydrogen and is scarcely used in organic\nsynthetic transformations as a source of hydrogen. The developed protocol\noffers a broad spectrum for chemoselective transfer hydrogenation\nof α,β-unsaturated ketones. Moreover, the method was found\nto be highly effective for aryl and ferrocenyl α,β-unsaturated\nketones consisting of one or two double bonds and with multiple functionalities.\nMoreover, the present method avoids prolonged reaction time, provides\na wide range of substrates with excellent yield, and circumvents the\ntedious chromatographic workup.
