Abstract

Alkaline water electrolysis is a promising avenue for\nhydrogen\nand oxygen production. Yet, the pursuit of highly efficient nonprecious\nelectrocatalysts to drive the hydrogen evolution reaction and oxygen\nevolution reaction persists as a formidable obstacle. Herein, we present\na viable method for constructing a catalyst utilizing distinct interfacial\ninterfaces. Within this catalyst, NiSe2 and FeSe2 are anchored onto NiCo-LDH nanosheets, potentially enhancing the\ninherent properties of the catalyst and demonstrating remarkable performance\nacross various aspects of water electrolysis. Specifically, it exhibits\nimpressive efficiency in both the OER and HER, displaying overpotentials\nof 256 and 176 mV, respectively, at 50 mA cm–2.\nMoreover, it promotes complete splitting of water, achieving 50 mA\ncm–2 at a potential of 1.63 V under alkaline conditions.\nAdditionally, the NiCo-LDH/FeSe2/NiSe2 catalyst\nshowcases notable attributes such as a substantial electrochemically\nactive surface area and prolonged stability. Given the reported performance,\nthis research provides valuable perspectives on the contributions\nof multiphase materials to the advancement of water electrolysis technology.
