First photographic documentation of Watanabeopetalia atkinsoni in India and observed shifts in the distribution of other Odonata species in the hill forests of West Bengal
This study documents the first photographic record of Watanabeopetalia atkinsoni in India, along with other significant odonata rediscoveries in West Bengal. A total of 23 species were revealed, including 3 Data Deficient, and 20 Least Concern species. Notable findings include the first record of Coeliccia didyma in West Bengal, the second record of Camacinia harterti and Chlorogomphus mortoni in the state, and the fourth record of Camacinia harterti in India. Additionally, six new species were recorded within Buxa Tiger Reserve, expanding the known fauna of Alipurduar District. These discoveries highlight the importance of West Bengal’s odonata fauna and emphasise the need for continued exploration and conservation efforts in the region.
