El discurso de los periodistas sobre el impacto de la inteligencia artificial generativa en la desinformación / The discourse of journalists on the impact of generative artificial intelligence on disinformation
This study analyses the discourse of Spanish journalists regarding the impact of generative artificial intelligence (GAI) on disinformation, based on 778 tweets from 118 professionals. Findings indicate a cautious stance that prioritises the risks GAI poses to public trust and media credibility over its technological potential. Journalists primarily expressed concerns about misinformation, biases in AI-generated content, deepfakes, and its use for malicious purposes. While some acknowledged the efficiency and productivity improvements AI can offer, the majority of comments reflected scepticism and called for stronger regulation. The analysis reveals a significant shift from early neutral or optimistic messages towards a more critical tone as the tools’ limitations and dangers became evident. This transformation underscores the dual nature of AI in journalism: a tool that can both assist and undermine media integrity. Furthermore, the study contributes to understanding how media professionals perceive the evolving role of AI within the digital information ecosystem and raises questions about the epistemological authority of journalism in the age of algorithmic content creation. The results highlight the importance of regulatory frameworks, professional standards, and ethical reflection to preserve journalistic credibility amid technological disruption.
