Following a recent capture of Pleurophorus caesus (Creutzer, 1796) (Coleoptera: Scarabaeidae) in the Brussels-Capital Region, the biology and distribution of this little dung beetle are being investigated. Both larvae and adults feed on composted plant material. The species is native to Central and Southern Europe, North Africa and further east to the Near East and the Caucasus. In the Benelux countries, they were only found as a very occasional immigrant and through world trade evolved into a cosmopolitan species.
