Effects of wavelength and light intensity on the phototaxis of the striped flea beetle, Phyllotreta striolata (Coleoptera: Chrysomelidae)
Phyllotreta striolata is a major pest of Cruciferae. This study examined its phototaxis using nine monochromatic lights (405 - 625 nm), white light and 10 light intensities (10 - 3000 lux). Optimal dark adaptation and light reaction times were 60 and 45 min, respectively. Adults showed peak attraction at 555 and 585 nm with minimal response at 465 nm. Phototactic strength increased with intensity up to 600 lux before declining. These findings provide valuable insights for developing of light-based pest control strategies.
