It is becoming difficult to meet the fast-rising demand for construction materials having a low environmental impact. The introduction of innovative construction materials is critical in reducing carbon emissions and ensuring that everyone has access to affordable homes. Untested usage of locally produced building materials has resulted in significant carbon emissions and a short building lifespan. Brick, concrete blocks, mud buildings, and stone masonry are the most often used construction materials in Ethiopia. Conventional building materials such as concrete blocks have high carbon emissions. The production and transportation of such material lead to relatively high levels of greenhouse gas emissions. It is observed that the possibility of replacing these materials is not explored enough in the case of Ethiopia. This paper aims to explore the new combination of materials that can replace ‘conventional bricks’ to enhance the environment-friendly nature of the structure. Brick blocks made up of ’Timbercrete’ were explored and experimented with several combinations of mixtures. the ’saw dust’ which is considered waste is used as a primary material in all the compositions. Findings revealed that various material compositions with sawdust can be used as a building material to reduce the cost and environmental impacts. It is also revealed that composition with poor response to the various tests can still be used for certain components in the building.
