Hydrothermal synthesis of molybdenum disulfide (MoS2) nanosheets for electrochemical sensing of hydrazine

Recently, fabrication of hydrazine sensors electrochemical sensors have received extensive attentions due to their cost-effectiveness, simplicity, high sensitivity and selectivity. Herein, we reported the hydrothermal formation of molybdenum disulphide (MoS2) using ammonium molybdenum tetra hydrate and L-cysteine as Mo and S-source, respectively. The MoS2 was characterised by employing SEM, EDX and XRD techniques. The MoS2 was deposited on to the glassy carbon i.e. GC electrode by simple drop-caste approach. The MoS2 based GC electrode was adopted as hydrazine sensor. Cyclic voltammetry and differential pulse voltammetry (CV and DPV) have been used for the electrochemical characterisation of MoS2 modified GC electrode. The CV and DPV studies showed that MoS2 modified GC electrode has higher electrochemical properties compared to the bare GC electrode. The MoS2 modified GC electrode exhibited detection limit of 0.54 µM with sensitivity of 3.2 µA µM−1.cm−2 and dynamic linear range of 1 to 10 µM. The MoS2 modified GC electrode also demonstrated acceptable results for reproducibility, and selectivity. We believe that MoS2 modified GC electrode may explored for the construction of hydrazine electrochemical sensing devices.
