A Classification and Criteria to Determine the Similarity of Chinese Fonts and Morphemes

ABSTRACT This study addresses issues in the Chinese character classification system by analyzing morphological features to determine font similarity, focusing on unclear criteria and complex morpheme classification. Using the Japanese font classification system as a reference, this study analyzed Component Parts such as Letter Frame, Central Space, and Center of Gravity, and examined stroke morphemes, incorporating standard similarity metrics. Moreover, examined stroke morphemes and incorporated standard similarity metrics for variable fonts. The study proposed a standard for judging font similarity by dividing the morphological characteristics of Chinese characters into Classic, Modern, and Classic/Modern. Morphemes were categorized into Structure, Stroke, and Measurement Criteria, including specific attributes like Font Width, Stroke characteristics, and Thickness differences. These findings provide a valid standard for classifying Chinese fonts, setting machine learning criteria, and matching fonts in multilingual typesetting.
