A Geographical Study of the Irrigation Situation in Solapur District

Abstract Solapur district is located in the south-eastern part of Maharashtra and agriculture is the main occupation here. Agricultural production in the district is largely dependent on water supply and irrigation. Irrigation is of utmost importance in Solapur district due to low rainfall. Farmers face various problems due to lack of effective management of irrigation, water wastage and low water supply, which adversely affects agricultural production.The status of irrigation in Solapur district, its importance, challenges and improvements have been studied from an in-depth geographical perspective. Irrigation projects, water resources, water saving schemes and inefficiencies in the irrigation system in the district have been studied. Similarly, improvements in the irrigation system, necessary measures and more appropriate utilization of the agricultural area have been discussed. Also, the need for proper management, improvement and water saving measures to solve the problems of irrigation will be clear. Effective management of irrigation can increase the income of farmers and boost agricultural development.
