Concept Abstract- The 3D Clinical Autonomy Model™: A Practical Ethics Framework for Balancing Patient, Clinical Team, and Loved Ones' Autonomy

The 3D Clinical Autonomy Model™ offers a structured, relational framework that balances the ethical perspectives of patients, clinical teams, and loved ones in shared healthcare decision-making. Traditional autonomy models emphasize patient choice but often fail to account for clinician judgment and the cultural, emotional, or value-based perspectives of loved ones. This model was developed through clinical ethics consultation experience and proposes a ten-step mnemonic ("DIMENSIONS") to support transparent, inclusive decision-making in complex cases. It is designed for use in education, ethics facilitation, clinical practice and institutional policy. This submission formalizes the framework for timestamped public authorship. This submission includes both a narrative conceptual framework and an original visual diagram titled “The 3D Clinical Autonomy Model™.” Both components are submitted together as part of a single authorship and licensing entity. The image is not to be used independently from the associated framework. This version has not been peer reviewed or tested in clinical settings. A full manuscript expanding the model is in development for submission.
