Systematic Review of Psychological Well-being in University Students: Influences, Trends, and Interventions
Psychological well-being signifies a person’s mental and emotional state, encompassing happiness, purpose and resilience. It is influenced by inner traits and outer conditions, contributing to overall quality of life. This systematic review explored the psychological well-being (PWB) of university students, synthesized findings from over 15 empirical studies across diverse geographic and academic contexts. It examines key influences on student well-being, including academic stress, coping strategies, demographic variables, institutional environments, and the impact of COVID-19. Common patterns emerged: academic stress consistently reduced well-being; resilience, social support, and physical activity were protective; and gender, year of study, and socioeconomic status shaped individual outcomes. The findings underscore the need for universities to implement holistic strategies that foster resilience, integrate mental health resources, and target vulnerable groups.
