Empowering Smart Farming through Automated Weather-Driven Systems Using IoT and IBM Cloud

As a technology continues to evolve in the current industrial revolution, its impact on agriculture has become increasingly important. From basic irrigation systems to smart fertilizers, innovations such as Artificial Intelligence (AI) and the Internet of Things (IoT) have transformed farming practices. A major challenge still faced by farmers is crop damage caused by heavy rainfall. This can lead to reduced productivity, soil erosion, and financial stress for farmers. To address this issue, we propose a smart crop protection system that provides both automatic and manual control. The system uses sensors along with a NodeMCU module to monitor weather conditions and control protective coverings over crops. An LCD screen displays real-time field status. Our model uses IoT devices to collect data on rainfall, soil moisture, temperature, and humidity. This information is sent to the IBM Cloud, where it is analyzed to make decisions such as deploying protective covers or redirecting excess water. The goal is to minimize crop loss, conserve water for future use, and promote sustainable farming. By integrating real-time monitoring and remote access, the system empowers farmers to take timely action, making agriculture more efficient and resilient to changing weather conditions. This project also provides a base for future advancements in smart agriculture.
