D-MGT.3 Final Public Project Report
Integrating renewable energy sources—key to reducing greenhouse gas emissions—continues to transform Europe’s power systems. As the energy transition accelerates, the complexity of electric grids increases, driven by the proliferation of distributed energy resources, digitalisation, and the need for flexible, resilient infrastructures. The European Union’s 2030 climate and energy targets demand innovative solutions and coordinated efforts across the continent. Building on the success of its predecessors, DERri and ERIGrid, the ERIGrid 2.0 project represents the third phase of a long-term initiative to support the development and validation of smart grid technologies. While DERri focused on distributed energy resources and ERIGrid expanded to system-level validation, ERIGrid 2.0 takes a significant step forward by widening and advancing access to European research infrastructures. It is a single-entry point for researchers working on smart grids, smart energy systems, and renewable integration. ERIGrid 2.0 enhances the technical capabilities and services available to the research community, offering improved methods, tools, and validation procedures. It also strengthens Europe’s leadership in the energy domain by fostering collaboration, innovation, and knowledge exchange across disciplines and borders. This final public report presents a comprehensive overview of ERIGrid 2.0’s achievements, including its contributions to research infrastructures, system-level testing, education and training, and support for Lab Access and virtual access. We are proud to share the outcomes of this ambitious project and its role in shaping a sustainable, intelligent, and integrated Europeanenergy system.
