Fostering Global Engagement in Higher Education: Insights from an Online Inter-Institutional Initiative

Global engagements in higher education are initiatives which must be emphasised for any institutions that aspire to expose their students to the global environment. One of these initiatives was an international online project which brought together over 200 students from two academic institutions in a collaborative and culturally enriching project. Spanning a duration of 10 weeks, the project engaged students in presenting selected topics that showcased various aspects of their respective countries. To foster a spirit of competition and maintain high levels of engagement, quiz sessions were held at the end of each presentation. These interactive components not only tested participants’ understanding but also added excitement to the learning process. At the conclusion of the project, students completed questionnaires to provide feedback on their experience. The responses were overwhelmingly positive, with many students expressing appreciation for the opportunity to connect globally and suggesting that similar projects be organised in the future. This initiative highlights the potential of international online collaboration in enhancing cross-cultural understanding and active learning.
