Software-Based UART LED Controller Using Register-Level Logic in MATLAB
This project presents a fully simulated UART-controlled LED pattern system designed to mimic embedded system behavior using register-level logic in MATLAB. Built without relying on any hardware abstraction layers or peripheral libraries, the system replicates core embedded principles such as GPIO register manipulation, UART command parsing, finite state machine (FSM) transitions, and timing control. Through simulated UART input, the user can send real-time commands like BLINK, CHASE, RECORD, and REPLAY, each triggering specific LED behaviors modeled in a virtual Output Data Register (ODR). The project includes features such as custom pattern recording, interactive editing, and a timer-based event loop that emulates asynchronous communication flow. Designed for learners, developers, and embedded systems enthusiasts, this simulation provides a hands-on, hardware-free learning platform for understanding low-level embedded logic. It also serves as a flexible prototyping environment for command-driven control systems. The system architecture emphasizes modularity, state-based execution, and extensibility—making it an excellent educational tool and a foundation for future embedded applications or firmware porting to STM32 and other platforms.
