Robotic Hummingbird: A Flapping Wing Micro Air Vehicle

Inspired by the amazing flight capabilities of actual hummingbirds, this thesis describes the design, construction, and testing of a robotic hummingbird, an example of a flapping wing micro air vehicle (FWMAV). The main goal is to develop a bio-inspired micro air vehicle that can replicate the intricate flying patterns of hummingbirds. The project takes a comprehensive approach, starting with the main body and wings and working its way down to the construction of the flapping wing mechanism. Prototypes are designed, cre- ated and tested to assess aerodynamic performance, lift generation, and flight stability. In order to improve the effectiveness and functionality of the FWMAV, the research in- vestigates the integration of cutting-edge materials and control systems. The outcomes add to the expanding field of bio-inspired robotics and have potential uses in surveillance, environmental monitoring, and other domains requiring small, manoeuvrable air vehicles.
